This map shows where weather is most comfortable across the United States during June, based on Perfect Weather Index scores averaged across recent years.
Scores combine temperature, sunshine, humidity, and wind to highlight regions that consistently offer the most pleasant outdoor conditions for the month.
These regions benefit from marine influence, elevation, and delayed summer heating — allowing them to avoid both the extreme heat developing inland and the rising humidity spreading across the central and eastern U.S. June is when the Pacific Northwest begins its dry season, often delivering its best weather of the year.
Oregon and Washington lead the nation in June. The Pacific coastline and Cascade Mountains create a natural buffer against inland heat, and June typically marks the start of a long dry season with mild temperatures and abundant sunshine. Idaho and Wyoming benefit from elevation and inland position, offering comfortable mountain conditions well removed from summer humidity.
California performs best at elevation in June. The Sierra Nevada — from Placerville up through Lake Tahoe — hits peak conditions, while valley areas warm toward uncomfortable levels.
June is one of the best months for mountain national parks. Parks like Yosemite and Zion offer excellent early-summer conditions before peak heat and crowds arrive in July. The Rocky Mountain area and other northern parks also come into full summer form in June.
(Based on statewide average Perfect Weather Index scores.)
June is the month to head west and up in elevation. The Pacific Northwest, northern California mountains, and Intermountain West offer the most reliable comfort. Large portions of the South and central Plains are among the least comfortable in the country as summer takes hold.
